Mirce, Slightly Drunk, Republic of Moldova

In my portrait work I usually like a straight and honest look towards the camera. But Mirce's drunk enthusiasm was so warm-hearted and honest, I couldn't say no to that.
Since many years I visit small villages and put up my mobile portrait studio. Shot on a 4x5 film that was last produced in 2002, only one negative per portrait, I develop and print the pictures on site in my bus. It is an amazing experience, to first hand the picture to the person depicted (before showing it to the world).
I take portraits of people with whom I have good encounters; an interesting story, a shared cigarette, a bottle of vodka, or both; maybe they helped me, maybe I helped them. These are my holy people!
